I love a lot of Spielberg's movie... but I think I'll have to say this is his masterpiece! What a beautiful and great underrated movie! A young Christian Bale delivers what might be the greatest juvenile performance ever in movie history! I certainly can't remember having watched a movie where somebody outperformed him.
He's just dazzling as Jim, you really feel for him and cry with him, without leaving you with a feeling of having watched another sentimental Spielberg movie. It might not be a movie for everybody.
.. you'll have to be able to understand it, because if you don't you'll miss the brilliance of it, and quite possible hate it...which is a shame, because it's among the most extraordinary stories ever told on the bog screen.
.. an absolute must for any serious movie fan... or Christian Bale fan for that matter!
