Many epic and sweeping films lose their emotional centers because of their sheer size. Empire of the Sun doesn't fall into this trap. In what is easily on of Spielberg's best, Bale manages to carry this massive film from beginning to end.
A sprawling and intense drama. An incredibly fullfiling movie to plan an evening around.
