Well shot and a fairly interesting story, but not a single likable character for me. Bale is good, but the character was annoying and some of his motivations were difficult for me to understand that it left me a little confused.
In the end there are many better films about children in wartime ("Ivan's Childhood," "Grave of the Fireflies," etc.).
