Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Stcenterprise . — 30 Nov 2012
A handsomely produced coming-of-age piece, with World War II as its backdrop, anchored by the captivating central performance of the precocious twelve-year-old Christian Bale. The film is a little too long for its own purpose, but there's enough energy here, fuelled by solid supporting turns from the likes of John Malkovich, Nigel Havers, Miranda Richardson, and Joe Pantoliano, that it never runs out of steam.
By no means flawless, but well worth experiencing.
