Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Joe T — 06 Nov 2013

This definitely didn't grab me as much as it could have, or as much as some of Spielberg's other films, especially 'Schindler's List' & 'Saving Private Ryan'. And, while Bale's OK, he's still a 13-year-old kid and can be annoying.

And this is much more of a Prisoner-of-War movie than it is a war movie - which I think Bale did better with 'Rescue Dawn'! I think John Malkovich & Ben Stiller could've been used more and there needed to be a bit more excitement and character exploration during the middle (it does go for almost 2 & a half hours), instead of the tediousness of prison life.
