Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Da Pain E — 18 Jan 2009
Burn After Reading - can't believe the coen brothers followed up perhaps the darkest movie of all time with this. they must be kind of schizo. fun, but kind of a let down. Francis McDormand and John Malkovitch were great. Even Brad Pitt was enjoyable. the best scenes were of the reactions of the FBI head honcho.
Shallow Hal - fun. ish. can't resist a Jack Black movie though. plus Rene Kirby lives in my neighborhood.
Empire of the Rising Sun - first of all, it's really startling to watch Christian Bale as such a young kid. He's really good in the movie. second of all, huh, I thought this was supposed to be a movie about occupied China, not about a couple of white people.
Appaloosa - I'd watch Ed Harris and Viggo in almost anything, and thought having them as cowboys together would be perfect, but I just couldn't get excited about the plot. Also whats-her-name annoys me.
Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down - it wasn't perfect, but it was hilarioius! you must see this before you get too old and stodgy to find it amusing. a faux after-school-special about the real lives of 20/30-somethings in a big city. includes tips on what drugs to do and how to get sex.
