Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Robin W — 28 May 2013
Jim Graham is a wealthy, brittish boy living in Shanghai. When world war II breaks out he is accidentally separated from his family and have to manage by himself. The story is quite engaging throughout the whole film, even though the film is a tad bit to long.
The film has some focus on the thoughts and feelings of Jim and depicts the innocence of a child at many points, however, I think that this is something that isn´t done enough in the movie. The most interesting thing about the film is to see the transformation of Jim from a spoiled, young brat into a streetsmart survivor.
