Review of Emperor (2012) by Dustin D — 12 Mar 2013
"Emperor" puts a human face on an important moment in postwar U.S.-Japanese history. The director does an excellent job depicting Tokyo in the days after the war, and the movie shows acute attention to detail.
Tommy Lee Jones quickly won me over as Gen. MacArthur. The movie could have cut out the love story subplot without missing a beat. The subplot serves as background for the Fellers character, but got a little too sappy and didn't pull at the heartstrings the way it was meant to.
However, "Emperor" was a quality film and I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
