Review of Emperor (2012) by Nilesh J — 29 Aug 2013
It is easy to see why this history drama may not interest many looking for an action-packed triumph of a hero or a biopic of important POTUS but an absolutely brilliantly shot movie at that pivotal moment in the WW2 aftermath.
For anyone not familiar with the Japanese history of the time and how it changed the course of Japan for later decades, the importance of the main event is likely to be totally lost. Tokyo 1945 is absolutely brilliantly shot with some truly haunting scenes.
The romance story is cliched but it definitely has huge volatility in establishing story links with many top Japanese leaders of the time - a la Herman Wouk or even War and Peace. A must for anyone interested in post war developments, even though it is easy to see why this is not a movie for the mainstream.
