Review of Emperor (2012) by Nathan P — 07 Sep 2014
A solid performance from Matthew Fox as General Bonner Fellers, the US Army intelligence officer serving as attache to General Douglas Macarthur in the Japanese occupation.
The story seems to have far more bones than meat, which serves to exemplify the peculiarly stubborn Japanese trait of refusing to admit reality, even when staring into the abyss created by it.
Japanese officials stall and obfuscate despite Fellers' investigation, the truth of arguments and ultimate disappointment; and in the end it is again left to the Emperor to wipe the slate clean with Macarthur.
