Review of Elysium (2013) by Adam W — 13 May 2015
Blomkamp takes on another sci-fi adventure set 150 years in the future where predictably the Earth is ruined and the gap between rich and poor is huge.
Strangely it seems everybody left on earth has a latin surname but nevermind.
This film is the struggle between the determined poor and the resentment of the rich led by uber bitch Jodie Foster who I think took Margaret Thatcher as her inspiration.
Damon after a horrible accident is our protagonist who will stop at nothing to save himself from death, taking on the establishment and many a nasty guy in the process, inadvertedly becoming a hero for many.
Elysium is a good film and presents the case of todays first/third world problems set in the future, as Blomkamp did previously he takes issues of today and presents them in the future...
