Review of Elysium (2013) by Yash B — 23 May 2015
"Elysium" is smart, heartfelt, and exciting sci fi. It introduces big ideas that despite being seen before, are still thought provoking. Matt Damon has already proven himself as both a capable dramatic actor and action star and he delivers in both fields in this film.
Sharlto Copley also is a strong villain. However, aside from these two, some of the performances aren't very engaging, which is unfortunate since Damon and Copley are both excellent. The film isn't near as good as "District 9" but it is still a nice little ride that has some resonating themes and exciting action scenes.
Although more could have been done with a grand premise like this and some of the performances tend to falter, the movie is still killer fun and the themes are executed pretty well.
