Review of Elysium (2013) by Kevin R — 18 May 2014
They are armed and I'd like them dead.
In 2154 the Earth is very different. The elite live in a space station of sorts known as Elysium that hovers just above the Earth and has all of the greatest technology. The humans that live on Elysium do not come to Earth and vice versa. Those that live on Earth live a life of poverty. Those sick and dying on Earth want Elysium's technology; and when a man's daughter is diagnosed with leukemia, he will stop at nothing to save her.
"Is this going to hurt?
Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9 and the upcoming Chappie, delivers Elysium. The storyline actually reminded me very much of District 9. The action scenes are definitely first rate and this is a solid science fiction picture. The acting was also very solid as the cast includes Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichter, Sharlto Copley, and Diego Luna.
"I'm shitting my pants.".
We were excited to see this film based on the previews and found this to be a worthwhile addition to the science fiction genre. The action scenes were well done and the storyline was straightforward but interesting. Overall, this isn't as good as District 9 but is still an entertaining picture worth your time that is borderline worth adding to your DVD collection.
"Do not damage his brain.".
Grade: B.
