Review of Elysium (2013) by Dave B — 22 Jun 2014
Albeit entertaining, it's not particularly unique. The concepts have all been done many times over throughout sci-fi's recent history - and even in Blomkamp's last endeavor. Through no fault of Matt Damon, who demonstrates yet another facet of his acting arsenal, the plot has potential but wades amid other bleak, apocalyptic rich vs. poor stories because it lacks the human element of the Elysium perspective.
Too many psychos and one-dimensional characters on both side of space for us to care too much.
And we don't have to talk about the ridiculousness of his armored skeleton.
