Review of Elysium (2013) by Roberto O — 15 Dec 2014
As with many science-fiction movies lately, the opening scenes are very enticing, and it made me expect a lot from the film. Characters talk to each other, explaining the situation to the spectator, setting a very original and thought-provoking plot.
However, as the film advances, the dialogues become scarce and are substituted by successive action scenes, with virtually no time to really reflect about the social differences in this future world; after being superbly introduced, these themes are not really dealt with during the movie.
The action is well executed, with great visual effects, but that should be a complement to the core message of the film, not the movie itself. This left a hollow feeling inside me as I left the cinema.
