Review of Elysium (2013) by Andreia C — 06 Mar 2015
A disappointing Matinee. Like Prometheus it raises too many questions it doesn't have the intelligence or time or balls or narrative clarity to answer or flesh out, and like Star Trek Into Darkness it just falls into the cliches and dumbness of an action thriller. But it starts out so strong and has such a fantastic-designed surface (yes with all that grime and squalor and the Elysium rich-area, shallow as it looks) that I can't say it didn't have some entertainment. If it were a book, yes, if it was an actual novel, maybe it would be better since it would force the writer to explain things.
But for now... we get Sharlto Copley. My. God.
