Review of Elysium (2013) by Tristan M — 08 Nov 2015
Typical view of earth future, and in a good movie. Gotta love the plot: radiation poisoning, Elysium has devices that can heal everything, Matt has to get up there to survive, is being hunted by the crazy assasin Kruger and his team.
The acting is good, the script has many memorable moments and quotes. It all looks very good, everything looks so real, the shuttles taking off could be a tad better but for the not part it is all spot on.
The CGI is everywhere, but all is great, and the gun effects are amazing. Shooting the future energy gun is the most satisfying thing ever to watch, it's so destructive and mesmerizing, perfect. One very cool thing is the blowing off and reconstructing of Krugers face after the grenade goes off right in front of him, great gore, and is cool when it's reformed.
Kruger is a great enemy, personally I love his acting here and in District 9, he's so crazy and badass, excellent fighter, awesome to watch. The use of Exo suits was surprising but a good idea, as they fit the subject and made for some damn good fights.
The ending isn't what we expect, but better for sure, but I have some doubts on the amount of hospital shuttles that Elysium can deploy. Anyways it's a great futuristic movie, loves good, sounds good, great plot and ending, action is fantastic to watch.
We can see where Niel got his inspiration for Chappie, as Chappie and the security robots look basivky the same, and we can wonder if maybe the universes will be tired together with future films about the subject, who knows?
