Review of Elvis & Nixon (2016) by Wayne M — 06 Oct 2016
Two great actors at work should hopefully mean a great film. Sadly this is not a great one. Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey are superb, as expected, as the iconic Elvis and Nixon. Their unexpected meeting in 1970 sounds like a great idea for a film.
But in reality this is very slight film in which nothing of consequence really happens. We get a feel for the period and a glimpse into the world of Elvis but the film falls a bit flat. Interestingly Shannon does not to impersonate the Elvis accent.
It works as he is great actor, but the film just doesn't get there.
