Great old movie. Sure, by nowadays' standards, it's a bit overacted, but the storyline (written, I believe, by Sinclair Lewis) and the complexities of the characters' various motivations, makes it fascinating.
The multiple levels of conflicting sincerities, hypocrisies, opportunisms, and idealisms are byzantine! I loved it as much tonight as I did when I first saw it years ago.
