Great performances fuel this film about a Tent Revival Evangelist with a golden tongue, and a selfish and false heart. Shirley Jones is fantastic as is Jean Simmons, who portray the women affected by Elmer Gantry.
This is hands down Lancaster's best performance on film This film is not anti-religion as some think, but anti-fanatics and judgemental people who are more faithful to being pious than they are to having a loving heart and compassion that is encouraged by their God.
But overall, Shirley Jones is my favorite in this film. she is just too beautiful.
