Review of Elmer Gantry (1960) by Jonathan B — 25 Aug 2008
I wanted to like this movie, but it seemed a little rushed and unfocused. The main character is basically homeless, and than overnight is just accepted as a key part of the revival with little explanation.
In the end, I was not even sure if it was supposed to be a positive or negative portrayal of evangelicalism. Burt Lancaster was really great and captivating, but nothing else stood out about this film.
