Review of Elling (2001) by Kaci M — 08 Jun 2005
Hello one and all.
Why is it that foreign films are always so much...sweeter, I guess, than American movies? Hollywood doesn't have much of a vicarious eye- that is, an eye for emotions as opposed to Visceral action and images. Elling, a norwegian film from 2002, is not an action epic. It's not an action epic. It's NOT an action epic. This is rare- especially as humanity continues to suck down such fabled terrors as reality TV and Ridley Scott's films.
Elling is a very unique film, because it concentrates on characters instead of what happens to them. We know Elling, and we feel for him, because we have all been there. This movie is very v ery good, and its photographed very well also. Everything about the movie just...works. The overall effect is happiness. The filmmakers realized that hey, we don't need to trick our audience and mislead them and blablablablabla all the time- we can just make a movie thats story driven, and it shows very well.
I won't mention anything about the film except for that its the story of 2 men released from a mental institution and given an apartment by the government in the big city. See it!
Fear Factor Live was oddly impressive, even though, as I mentioned, reality television is just shitty.
That said, keep rockin and rollin...
