Review of Elling (2001) by Mike W — 05 Jul 2007
A brilliant, tender, warm, thoroughly funny film. Never soppy, and doesn't come over as manipulative at all, but effortlessly leaves you loving the characters. It's the respect shown to them and innate truth behind them that makes this the case- their 'lunacy' is never overplayed, and comes off as very true to life, helped by the strength of the two excellent lead performances.
I can't help but feel happy when I watch this, and can't recommend it highly enough. A wonderfully original and optimistic film, that to my mind just about anyone would enjoy.
