Review of Elle (2016) by Michael W — 10 Feb 2017
While not usually a Verhoeven fan (except for "Basic Instinct", which I love), this film was a pyscho-sexual thriller par excellence. It was cool, amoral, unsettling, and so very French. You literally cannot take your eyes off Isabelle Huppert, as she is a magnetic screen presence.
Her Best Actress Oscar nomination is well deserved (and overdue), so here's hoping she wins.
