Review of Elle (2016) by Nguyen Thuy H — 11 Feb 2017
It's a triumphant return for the provocateur. My issue is with Michele's relationship with her father (and her mother): it seems to exist just to give a lame reason for her psychopathic attitude.
Otherwise, this is individualism at its best, a refusal to bend to socially constructed pity and a scorning endeavor to define life in one's own term, much like what the character of Anais achieved in Catharine Breillat's Fat Girl.
