Review of Elle (2016) by Ming Siu G — 08 Mar 2017
The title makes a lot more sense in French ("She"), for this isn't just a rape-revenge-black-comedy. It's an incisive look at a very unique individual, played to perfection by the incomparable Huppert.
Verhoeven is in top form, blending squeamishness, psychological thrills, and pitch-black comedy into a twisty tale that's always fascinating. Bonus points for the dig at hypocritical "religious" folks.
