Review of Elle (2016) by Joan Pau R — 07 Mar 2017
I was disappointed by this film, despite some good acting. I guess one could say it is ridiculous in the way French films are meant to be ridiculous, with protagonists sleeping with their best friend's husbands, treating their mother like shit, having an affair with the person who raped them, etc.
Potentially a challenging thriller, it soon becomes a caricature of itself, losing all the tension. Do not expect to sympathize with the victim either. Those who liked Sharon Stone playing with Michael Douglas and wearing nothing under her skirt might like this too.
