Review of Elle (2016) by Mark E — 27 Dec 2016
I saw Elle, Manchester and Nocturnal over the course of three nights. Although all three have what I normally want in a film...interesting settings, great acting, interesting characters, alternative point of view...all 3 left me feeling empty, depressed and a little less happy. Even if this was each of their respective intention, I think films owe the audience some level of hope. And none of these were teaching us of some past injustice or atrocity which happened, which could in turn help us understand or avoid future happenings.
So, with Elle, we are left with another empty person.
