I'm really surprised that this movie didn't get better reviews. Maybe you just have to understand Southern small-town culture to really grasp the charm of the movie, because the portrayal is dead-on realistic.

My main criticism is that Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst are both bad actors, Bloom the worst of the two, with a terrible American accent. But even so, the scenes they had together worked somehow, minus the very first scene where they met which was pretty unrealistic.

But I bought the rest of their relationship and didn't have trouble suspending disbelief after that. They played off each other well. And all of the supporting cast was great. The movie also has a great soundtrack, good script and a touching ending that made me cry.

It gets compared to Garden State a lot and I can understand why, but the feel is different enough to enjoy both.
