Review of Elizabethtown (2005) by Victor D — 30 Jan 2011
A return to form for spectacular writer/director Cameron Crowe who gave us classics like Say Anything, Almost Famous. This was terribly miss-marketed as your generic romantic comedy when it is actually a comedy drama about life and what it means to be truly happy, what it means to truly be in love and what family really is.
Orlando Bloom is quite good as he gives a subtle performance ad Drew, a man who just love his job and his father and is become so depressed he seems numb. When he goes to Kentucky to settle his fathers affairs he meets the free spirited Claire played wonderfully by Kirsten Dunst. With her and his families help he rediscovers what it means to live life and to love.
I could relate to this movie with almost every scene. I know some people didn't enjoy this film and I was prepared not to like it but when it was done I found myself sad that it was over. I love Cameron Crowe as a filmmaker he has given me some of my favorite films and I can't wait for his next film!
