Review of Elizabethtown (2005) by Kathleen F — 24 Feb 2011
A wonderful movie from Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Say Something, Vanilla Sky and Almost Famous) where Orlando Bloom tried to overcome his typical romantic hero role. But the audience was still not ready to see him as a pensive hero contemplating suicide from a career breaking fiasco.
Probably the least commercially successful of Croweâ(TM)s movie because of its at times sprawling story line and not attempting to answer all the questions it raises regarding life, love, family and other crucial questions.
Kirsten Dunst also puts in a spontaneous performance and the chemistry with Orlando is amazing. Lovely film without too much crucial plot point, twists and turns and so atypically Hollywood movie. An underappreciated gem.
Highly recommended for viewers who are not afraid to challenge their expectations from the onset of the movie and who are able to judge a movie based on its merit and not what they anticipated from it.
