Review of Elizabethtown (2005) by Vangie B — 07 Apr 2009
Okay, so Elizabethtown is not exactly a good movie, but for some reason it I enjoy it very much, and it i'd attribute that not to the lackluster performances, or the many, many plot holes, but to Cameron Crowe (who I am a huge fan of) and his incredible hear for music.
Bloom's performance is not very good, in fact, the first time I watched the movie I couldn't take his accent seriously, but Dunst does a surprisingly good job playing a totally odd-ball character.
Cameron Crowe has always had a gift for telling love stories, and in that right, he succeeds here. Yet it is the music and the ending that made me actually like this film. The soundtrack and score are incredible, and Crowe proves once again that he is the best at chosing the right song for the right moment.
The road trip at the end of the movie makes me want to get in a car and drive, music my only roadside companion. In the end, most people will hate this movie, and critics have said the peace, but as many things as the story has going against it, the memorable characters, lines, music, and the unforgettable Cameron Crow touch make this film worth watching, and for me, worth seeing again.
