Review of Elizabethtown (2005) by Jami L — 04 Jun 2009
Elizabethtown is a film that I have always wanted to see, or thought about picking up on DVD, I have just never gotten around to it until now.
I enjoyed this movie. I am a sucker for a good love story. This movie was an honest portrait of the family and the relationships we have, verses the ones we wish we did. It shows how sometimes we think we know our family or ourselves, but in reality we really don't.
I am not surprised that I liked this film, since it's written and directed by Cameron Crowe. I adore Say Anything, Jerry Maguire, and Almost Famous. Now I can add Elizabethtown to the list.
Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom did well in this film and their romance was believable. I am a fan of Susan Sarandon, so I was pleased to see her as Hollie in this. I was also delighted to see Paula Deen, as Aunt Dora. She is a loud, obnoxious southern woman, and one of my favorite chefs. There is just something about her that reminds me of home. Judy Greer was good as well. She is an actress that can be really magnificent and funny and sometimes doesn't get the credit she deserves.
If you have ever been in love or wanted to be in love, or have better relationships with your loved ones, Elizabethtown is a movie you will appreciate.
