Review of Elizabethtown (2005) by Sarah R — 09 Nov 2010

This has to be my favorite movie of all time. The emotional attachments that one can have to parts of this film are harder hitting than the slidehow at a funeral. Of course to be able to identify with them you must have had similar experiences in your life and sadly in todays culture they are getting fewer.

This movie hits hard on family relationships, not just between a boy and his father but the giant potlucks with your relatives in the country that you only see once a year. For those of us who have never had the ability to spend time in a small town where everybody knows everyone and outsiders are instantly identifed with a local family and welcomed by everyone from the guy on the sidwalk to the old man running a drugstore this movie may be a complete miss. But for those of us where family is held most dear and your fondest childhood memories are trips to places like Pennsylvania, Indiana, or "Elizabethtown" a more emotional movie does not exist.
