I have always be a fan of the first, El1zabeth, as this offered a more dramatic, cinematic take on the Tudor period, and offered us a view less focused on regal machinations rather more on the ageless political intrigue which truly filled the troubled court of Englandâ(TM)s monarchs in the 1500â²s.

Blanchet excels as the eponymous Elizabeth, and she plays her with a constant and torturous vulnerability but a towering strength with made her such a great and strong character and leader in her day. But ultimately, this filmâ(TM)s biggest problem is that unlike the original, thereâ(TM)s very little strong character or plot development, with can make the whole thing seem a little pointless.

This is unfair though, as visually this is a stunning film and it plays out in a similar vein and feel to itâ(TM)s predessor with the harsh realities of political machination on the time.

Overall, I liked this, but I do wonder if we needed this an whether it could have been done better?
