Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) by J L — 02 Jul 2009
The atmosphere in this movie was quite different from the first one, although it dealt with contemporary issues that would relate well to a younger audience.. the nuances in cate's acting is just astonishing.
... the first movie presented elizabeth as a coming of age tale, and about taking responsibility and elizabeth acknowledging her role.. in 'the golden age' we are in the midst of her reign, and although she is still struggling with her insecurities, cates portrayal of elizabeth is that of a confident, hot-tempered but tolerant queen who did what she thought was best for her people.
.. the introduction of 'the new world' was amusing, and the casting of clive owen was a great idea... abbie cornish brings a vulnerability to her role.... another great epic movie :D.
