Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) by Ben G — 02 Mar 2010
I had heard that "Elizabeth 2" wasn't as good as the first film, but I felt it was a worthy sequel that doesn't lack in the elegance and strife that the original had. True this film had a much wider scope, dealing with the Spanish invasion and England's crown being given to Mary Queen of Scots, there is still a great deal of strife for Elizabeth personally.
Cate Blanchett continues to deliver a bold performance with great underlying doubt and frailties with the "Virgin Queen" rediscovering what she had lost under her majestic mask.
Maybe not as potent as the first film, but worth seeing if you enjoyed it!
