Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) by Andrew M — 08 Feb 2011
Watched on the anniv of Queen Mary execution. Holds true the maxim that the most incredible characters and stories are found in history. Victim, then also, to the fact that history is not always considerate of fiction-style narrative.
Love and war in equal doses, if strangely concurrent. What we saw of the Armada battles was wholly epic and begged for more than the budget allowed. Lavish and beautiful production, of course. Shines by the magnificence of Cate Blanchett supported by Clive Owen and Geoffrey Rush.
BEST LINE: Elizabeth I to her lady-in-waiting, "My bitches wear MY collars!".
