Review of Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (2010) by Ahmed R — 31 Dec 2011
Takes the whole game of corruption introduced in the first film and flips it on its head. this is gritty crime drama meets political thriller in the most intense ways. Nascimento continues to make an outstanding protagonist and narrator.
his overall style and persona stand in such rigid contrast to a lot of the slime living around him. "the system" is such a brilliantly-constructed web of smooth-talking politicians and fatally brutal cops and street toughs all working together so each man can best serve his own interest.
the contradictions and juxtapositions are just amazing--no government on any level should work like that, but in this world it works almost too perfectly. a fantastically engaging and entertaining film just as good if not better than the original.
