Review of Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (2010) by Shawn M — 12 Mar 2012
It's no secret that City of God is one of the most beloved movies of the last decade, and it's shadow has loomed large over every single crime film to be set in Rio de Janeiro to come out since.
Elite Squad: The Enemy Within touches on much of the aforementioned film's themes of urban decay, but it's set in the guise of a police action thriller. That doesn't mean that it skimps on the social commentary, however, and rewards cerebral viewers with documentary-esque political substance between the solid gun fights.
A bit cliched in parts, but undoubtedly a very plausible action film for the most part.
