Review of Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (2010) by John S — 03 May 2012
This film borrows from the Hong Kong film - Infernal Affairs which I thought was a classic piece of cinema detailing corrupt cops and the lengths they will go to.
Elite Squad :The Enemy Within is a follow up to a film I havent seen, and its as its title would suggest about the BOPE (Elite Squad) and its Captain's plan to rid the force of its dirty cops.
Honestly I was expecting more, firstly blu ray does nothing for this film - Im sure it would have looked as good on DVD. The violence is very effective though, the shooting and action scenes are very well done. Almost believeable. The plot however is a bit crummy. At times I am struggling to figure out who is who and how I am supposed to remember how its all linked together - in the end I just assume everyone apart from Nascienmento and Fargo is a baddie.
In the end its not bad but its no City of God. The definitive film of Rio Slums.
