Review of Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (2010) by Alberto A — 16 May 2013
Exactly; quoting and affirming the subtitle: Now the enemy is another (O Inimigo é agora outro). Tropa de Elite tells the story of almost every government at least in Latin America. Those governments where the police department is completely corrupted with the means to take power over everything and win money. People criticize this saga because of its violence, but it needs to be raw, because reality is even more cruel. The lines of Nascimento in the end are correct: the system will take a long period of time to adjust itself, loooooong.
The film can be translated to a Mexican background, and Mexico is so far from improving. In fact we are moving backwards as time passes by. This is why Tropa de Elite is a punch in the stomach the whole way, but it will be well received by those who aren't to scared to see things as they are.
