Review of Elite Squad (2007) by David J — 22 Oct 2008
Raw, naked, harsch and tough as hell. If there's a genre opposite to the "feelgood-movie" it is definitely the right box for this one. Scary and depressing but at the same time fascinating about complete lack of law and order in the ghetto areas of Rio de Janeiro, about a world ruled by the sharp balance of power between drugdealers and a corrupt police force.
About the Elite Squad who's taks it is to clean up on both sides. Sometimes so terrible that if you could you would want to cry all the way through... but you don't have that opportunity, since everything is depictured in 200 mph and the intense and strong action demands all your attention and keep you sucked back into your seats with eyes wide open.
This is Tropa de Elite!
