Review of Elite Squad (2007) by Jaime N — 22 Oct 2008
Politically, the filmmakers have chosen an annoyingly ambigious route, which makes the accusiations of far-right propaganda inevitable, even I could not escape that thought. However, as far as I am aware, the social realities of today's Brazil do not afford easy solutions, so the film reflects the lose-lose situation between law enforcement and the people they are supposed to protect. Technically Tropa de elite is incredible, complete with spot-on acting, and as an action film it is accomplished as I did not find myself bored for a single second. Hollywood filmmakers should take note of this film.
Oh yeah, and forget the comparisons to Cidade de Deus, they are two different films and have nothing to do with each other.
