Review of Elite Squad (2007) by Nadeem M — 04 Nov 2008

Not quite as hard-hitting as City of God, the film that Elite Squad has often been paired with, but still a thought provoking, and at times disturbing, view of the police's side of the drug war in the slums of Rio.

It takes a while for the film to get going, maybe spending too much time looking at uninteresting aspects of police corruption (more interesting plot strands could surely have been found), but when the basis of the story comes to a head, it's hard not to be gripped right to the very end.
