An interesting take on the favelas of brazil. padilha looks through the other side of the fence - this time from the perspective of the elite police squad: BOPE. my two gripes were that the narration was too intrusive and that the directing style - though similar to 'city of god' just wasn't as dynamic or well done.

definitely worth checking out, simply for the explosive and unsettling scenes of violence. folks, you can't make these situations up, this is as gritty and unforgiving the favelas can get without having to spend a night there.
