Review of Elite Squad (2007) by Neil K — 04 Apr 2009

A taut and violent drama about the elite Brazilian cops whose task it is to take out drug dealers in the Rio slums. It shows how the daily relentless violence dehumanizes both the cops and their adversaries.

But the movie makers also wanted to put across the core message that those who consume drugs are also partly responsible for the violence and misery that surrounds the whole wretched business. Fans of City of God will appreciate this fine piece of cinema.
