I can't believe this movie info has been written by someone (Natham?) that actully saw the movie... BOPE is military (not para military) and it is present only in Rio. Besides, the movie do not tell about "?particularly the extreme corruption and underhandedness of each squad leader".

..the corruption shown is inside military police, not BOPE itself. And, also, they have not been created to "take matters into its own hands", they are a special force. "roughshod Brazilian streets"?? Those are ghettos streets.

And the main thing, the most important message in the film is that drugdealers violence against society is supported by the same people that claims to be their victms: average middle and high clas people that give them money buying their drugs.

There is also the Elite Squad 2, even better one.
