Review of Elf (2003) by Alex M — 30 Sep 2012
There's not many comedies I can watch no matter what, at any moment. It's especially exciting and meaningful during the Christmas time, but I can watch it whenever. I don't usually commend Will Ferrell for playing the man child(he does that way too often) but he's never done a better and more convincing rendition than here! And whoever had the idea of casting James Caan as his serious ah, humbug father, was a genius!!
It's one of the best fish out of water comedies I've seen, and something about it feels so innocent and genuine. In his other comedies, I always get an underlying sense of creepiness and manipulation of my emotions, but here he just seems so- at peace, as this clumsy heartfelt manchild Elf!! And Zooey Deschanel is of course adorable in this movie too. All in all, feel good and great holiday themed movie.
