Review of Elephant (2003) by Jack V — 22 Dec 2009
Controversial subject matter. At first I thought it was going to go down the pretentious path but I soon got into it, the story is non linear but this shouldn't put people off. As the film has a real sense of you 'being' there, the sense of 'being' there is with you thoughout the film too.
The style in which it is shot is something only to be admired also. I think if this film was made by anyone else than it would have just been contrived and done totally in the wrong way. I can see why people wouldn't like this film as it is difficult to comprehend with the subject matter but the film should be admired for more than that.
Some good performaces too from a cast I know nothing about. Not something to watch for hope and love but depicts the brutality of American high schools so well.
